8 Cut a little outside this line for the full depth of the head, leaving some wood at the front and sides for the ears and nose.

9 Round off the head, leaving a round button for the nose and lugs for the ears. You have scope here to create your own particular character.

10 Cut along the underside of the arms, shaping the front of the body as you do so. Leave about ⅜–⅝ inch (10–16 mm) at the elbows so you have plenty of wood for the sleeves; you can always reduce this later if you wish.

11 Shape the sleeves and hands, without adding detail to the hands—keep it simple.
